Dhrupad, Khyal and Thumree singer | Sitar player | Father of Abdul Ghani Khan

Azam Khan was the founder of the Kalpi Dhrupad Gharana. Kalpi is a small town around 170 km southwest of Lucknow. Azam Khan was the teacher of Yusuf Ali Khans father Bhondu Khan. He was a court-musician for the ruler of Khajurgaon, a small principality in the district of Rai Bareli about 80 km south of Lucknow. He composed many dhrupads, khyals, thumrees and sitar gats. No photos or recordings exist.
